Fayetteville Virtual Cooking and Canning Workshops

N.C. Cooperative Extension offers a variety of free classes you can participate in from the comfort of your Legacy at Cross Creek apartment in Fayetteville. Check out this upcoming series on home food preservation.

Cooking Under Pressure           

During this virtual workshop, learn about electric pressure cookers and how to use one in your home kitchen. This workshop will be held on Monday, May 10th from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Register online.

Pressure Canning

This virtual workshop is ideal for participants interested in learning to can low acidic foods. You will learn to process foods like vegetables and meat in a pressure canner. By the end of this workshop, you’ll also know how to avoid microbes that can cause problems during the canning process, how to test for a proper seal and best practices for storing home-canned goods. This workshop will be held on Thursday, May 13th from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Register online.

Freezing Basics

Participants in the Freezing Basics workshop will learn which foods can be frozen and how to prepare them for freezing. Additionally, this workshop will cover what to do during freezer emergencies and safe thawing methods. This workshop will be held on Thursday, May 27th from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Register online.

Sweet Spreads

If you’ve wanted to try making your own jams or jellies but didn’t know where to start, this virtual workshop is for you. Participants will learn how to prepare a variety of sweet spreads in the kitchen safely. This workshop will be held on Thursday, June 10th from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Register online.
